We will also host an Award Ceremony in the Annual Conference during which the winner of the 11th European Microfinance Research Award will be announced.
EUROPEAN MICROFINANCE RESEARCH AWARD (Applications closed)
The European Microfinance Research Award is organised by the European Microfinance Network and co-sponsored by the Research Group «Financial Inclusion and New Entrepreneurship» of The Hague University of Applied Sciences. The aim is to award and thus promote issues related to microfinance in the European Union and EFTA countries.
In this 11th edition of the European Microfinance Research Award, and in line with this year’s conference theme, applicants were asked to send papers exploring implications of the digital revolution on microfinance clients and institutions.
Other subjects were equally welcome, for example those related to job creation, information technology and innovation, social performance measurement, impact assessment and social entrepreneurship.
The EMN Selection Committee have selected three finalist papers out of which the winner will be chosen and announced during the Award Ceremony at the conference:
- Swati Mehta Dhawan (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation) with the paper “Financial Inclusion of Germany’s Refugees: Current Situation and Road Ahead”
- Knar Khachatryan, Vardan Baghdasaryan (American University of Armenia), Valentina Hartarska (Auburn University) with the paper “Is the model “loans-plus-savings” better for microfinance in ECA? A PSM comparison”
- Gisela Mann (University of Salford) with the paper “Does Consumer Microfinance Expand Financial Inclusion in the UK?”
The winner will be awarded a grant of €1,000!
4TH PHOTO CONTEST
EMN and MFC are pleased to launch the 4th Photo Contest in the framework of their joint Annual Conference in Bilbao in October 2018. The 4th Photo Contest is open to all EMN and MFC members.
As in previous editions of the Photo Contest, we would like to receive an image that tells a story! We are keen to know and show more about the activities of our members and their microfinance clients.

The winning organisation of the 4th Photo Contest will receive a free registration pass for the 2019 Annual Conference!
The winner will be announced during the Photo Contest Award Ceremony on Day 2 of the conference.
Please read the contest rules carefully along with the terms and copyright conditions before sending your pictures.
The 4th Photo Contest is open to all EMN Members and MFC Members – including those who are not attending the conference.
We want to receive photos that reflect a range of scenarios and subjects related to the impact of microfinance and financial inclusion in Europe. Images that are in line with this year’s conference theme ‘People and the Digital Revolution: Advancing Our Social Mission through Technology’ will be especially valued and other microfinance-related subjects are equally welcome.
We would also love to hear the story that goes with the photo – every image tells a story and we want to know the who, why, where, what etc. of the image sent in.
HOW IT WORKS?
You send us your original image and the story that goes with it, we will then print all the images (A2 Format) and display them in the coffee break and networking area. Conference attendees will be asked to cast their vote for their favourite story and image. The voting process will also be available on our Facebook event page, where 5 likes will equal one vote. The organisation with the winning photo will be given the opportunity to expand on the background of the image and the assistance they provided in the scenario depicted during the award ceremony.
HOW CAN YOU APPLY?
Read the conditions of entry and our copyright statement below and send 1 digital photo, colour or monochrome, (minimum 2480 x 3508 pixels, ideally 4960 x 7016 pixels) and the story that accompanies it (up to 300 words) to EMN (via Dropbox, WeTransfer or similar).
